BEAD MILL

Models 1038 and 1039
This machine makes beads from 5/16" (7.9 mm) to 3/4" (19 mm) in diameter. It is possible to grind twenty 1/2" beads at one milling.

The 4-1/2" x 1/2" aluminum head has a 3/8" recessed ring in the ceiling which provides a trough for the beads to follow. Milling action is achieved by rotating the chamber while the head controls the beads location. The chamber head removes quickly for easy cleaning.

Best suited for producing beads from hard materials such as Agate, Jasper, and Jade. This mill is not recommended for gemstone material softer than 5 on the Moh's hardness scale. This unit is a table model. The mill is mounted in heavy gauge metal housing. The head is belt driven by a 1/3 Hp, 110v/60 Hz motor and turns at a preset RPM rate to produce uniform beads from preformed material. The bead mill comes assembled with instructions and guarantee.

Overall size is 24"L x 12"W x 16"H.
Shipping weight is 75 lbs.

Model 1040
Same as Model 1039 except that this two-speed mill operates at 380 and 250 RPM. The fast speed is best suited for finishing beads after initial grind. The slower speed also reduces the abrasive action and should be used when milling softer materials such as malachite, rhodochrosite, and turquoise. Model 1040 only come in 110v 60Hz. A 220v 50Hz is not available.

The regular 1039 model 110v 60Hz is $650.00
The 1040 model having two speeds is $775.00.
add $40 for 220v 50Hz Export models
Extra 5" aluminum Bead Chamber is $130.80
Extra 5" aluminum Milling Head is $46.50.

Preforming of Beads

It is necessary to cut the gemstone material into cubes, slightly larger than the desired size. Accuracy in cutting the cubes so they are uniform in size will hasten grinding. Complete the preforming process by grinding off all corners and sharp edges until the cube is a rough sphere.

Milling

The preforms are placed in the cast aluminum 5" diameter head chamber with a 50/50 mixture of silicon carbide grit and water. Other types of grits may be used according to the stones hardness. The 4-1/2" diameter x 1/2" aluminum head has a 3/8" recessed ring in the ceiling. Milling action is achieved by rotating the chamber with the location of the beads controlled by the milling head.

Procedure

It is necessary for the operator to develop his own procedure by making test runs and keeping records of gem hardness, silicon carbide grit size and milling time. Remember, soft material require light mill head pressure and finer abrasive grit.

Cleaning

Chamber and head can be quickly removed for easy cleaning.

Polishing

Beads must be polished in a gem tumbler
